About

Dr. Hasan earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Botany and Microbiology from the University of Dhaka. Subsequently, he pursued his Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology at the Institute of Medical Science, University of Tokyo, Japan. Throughout his career, Dr. Hasan has demonstrated his unwavering commitment to research. He has amassed extensive experience in both Japan and the United States, having worked as a postdoctoral STA (Science and Technology Agency, Japan) and NEDO fellow at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tsukuba, Japan. His expertise extended to a joint project between AIST and Yokogawa Life Science Inc., where he played a pivotal role in developing real-time video microscopy. Subsequently, he made a significant transition to the United States, where he became a visiting scientist at the City of Hope Beckman Research Institute in Duarte, California.

Research Interests

Dr. Hasan’s research endeavors have evolved over the years. His initial focus was on unraveling the fundamental mechanisms underlying cellular senescence and aging, particularly as they relate to cancer. Notably, he played a pivotal role in cloning and characterizing the novel gene CARF, marking a significant milestone in his postdoctoral work. In more recent times, Dr. Hasan’s research has been centered on unraveling the role of CARF in fatty liver diseases and its intricate connections with insulin signaling and Type 2 diabetes. His laboratory is also dedicated to studying the detrimental effects of E-cigarettes and energy-rich diets on metabolic diseases. Furthermore, Dr. Hasan’s research explores the dynamic interplay between p53 and CARF, shedding light on their roles in cancer and metabolic disorders.

Dr. Hasan’s contributions extend beyond his research efforts. He has actively mentored high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as junior staff, nurturing the next generation of scientists. With a remarkable track record, Dr. Hasan has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles and contributed a book chapter in his specialized field. His dedication to advancing knowledge in biomedical research, particularly on understanding the role of CARF in cancer and metabolic diseases and nurturing future scientists, is a testament to his ongoing commitment to scientific exploration and mentorship.
